This is a collection of sentencing judges comments.
Judge Stephen Everett on letting Lucinda Collins off with a 2-year suspended sentence, 250h of community service and a 5-year driving ban:
Lucinda Collins failed to stop at a stop sign whilst on a hands-free call in which she received news of the impending death of her ill father, crashed into another car that caused the death of cyclist Roger Dutton.
Stephen Everett thought it was "ironic" – IRONIC – that Collins killed someone else whilst receiving news about her ill father and that it is the "same awful experience" to have someone dying from ill health as have someone's loved one being mowed down by a distracted driver, who couldn't be arsed to pull over to take/ make a call that she knew may be bad news.
Stephen Everett handed out the lenient sentence because Collins has "never been in trouble before and did not present a danger to the public"!!!
Lucinda Collins is danger to the public personified: A driver with poor judgement, presumably driving every day (since she has a daugher). Every day this woman is behind the wheel, she is at risk at being distracted and kill and injure someone else.
